Upstairs Versus Downstairs? The Debate Continues…

Posted:

Many times when discussing condo options with clients the question comes up: Which is better? Upstairs or Downstairs? The answer: It Depends…Let’s consider the Pro’s of being upstairs: 1. No noise from somebody above you.. 2. Vaulted Ceilings (but not always). 3. Added security of being on a top floor. 4. No chance of an upstairs neighbor leaking into your unit. 5. Better view. Now..naturally the con’s of being on the ground floor would be the opposite of pro’s of being on the top floor, but not always as we shall see. 1. No noise from somebody above you…This depends on the quality of construction, most higher end construction methods used sound buffering materials and one would never know when their upstairs neighbor walks around. 2. Vaulted Ceilings…some ground floor units have 10 foot ceilings anyway, but if you need vaulted ceilings, then you are an upstairs buyer. 3. Added security of being on top floor…Thieves can climbs stairs too, but the windows and lanai are a different story. 4. No chance of an upstairs neighbor leaking into your unit…But what if the roof leaks? 5. Better view…sometimes 10 feet or so doesn’t matter. Also. What if the there are trees blocking the top floor view?

Upstairs or Downstairs? As we can see there are pluses and minuses to each scenario. So I suppose without ovewhelming evidence to support either case, we can call it a Draw. In the end it’s about personal preference. Problem Solved.
